I like using it on vocals to round out the midrange a bit and make it more focused into whatever slot I want it to cut through in. The high shelf boost is also nice and airy without sounding harsh.

VariAudio is nice, it’s fast and intuitive to work with. Melodyne’s more expensive versions can probably get a lot more technical with editing sounds (including polyphonic pitch correction, which is just insane), but for your average tuning job of monophonic sources VariAudio delivers solid results.
Frequency has a L/R mode for exactly that. It’s in the same place as the M/S mode, you just click the left arrow instead of the right.
Yeah, I just target it to whatever range I feel needs that saturation to become more cohesive. The midrange harmonics on vocals can often feel a little harsh, so it’s perfect for softening them a bit.
