If a device works correctly in one location and not the other, then the issue is the location and not the device.
Could be that the house has wiring problems and is not providing enough power to any outlet. Could also be some other environmental factor like heat/airflow.
If it works at the store, then it is not the hardware, drivers, configuration, or software. Does it work at a friend/family house? Are you plugging it directly into the wall, or a power strip or extension cord? What did you do to convince you the problem is not the outlet(s)?
If she didn’t type in her social security number or credit card info, and did not download and install anything, then she is fine.
