Are you trying to connect the computer (tower system itself) to the TV? You may need a specific cord that converts HDMI to another. Such as a “HDMI to DVI adapter”. Because every computer is not as fully compatible to devices like a TV. Your laptop worked because it’s HDMI to HDMI compatible.

What device? Is it a console? If so, you can definitely change your IP address in the network settings. YouTube can help you with that.
