Not sure how to rig the video really, or not consistently. How about switching off the camera and just tell them it will not connect with it on, due to poor signal / connection.

Hold a crisp / chip packet in your hand, out of shot, and crumple for the lovely crackle effect.

Possibly install the wrong keyboard?
