  • I currently run a 3700X on a home build (I skimped on a cheap B450 Motherboard) and am looking to upgrade to a new machine because even with 8 cores I slow down when I start running Arturia’s Lexicon reverb, a few instances of Pigments, and some of the heavy usage VSTs like the CS80 and the OBX. With heavy bus processing I have to use all the slow asio settings and then pray, otherwise I’m bouncing VST tracks to audio which defeats the purpose of a VST imho.
So I either get a 5900X with a new motherboard (PCIe 4 capable) or else go for a new machine. I’m currently looking at a Minisforum UM790 with a Ryzen 9 7940HS, 32G DDR5 and a 1 TB M2 for €710. The 5900X is a faster CPU but the full upgrade is just under €600 and I still dont’t get DDR5. So it looks like I will go down the mini PC route as an xmas present to myself and dedicate the old machine to gaming.
In the past I would not think twice about buying a Digitakt or a MPC One so now I’m not going to think twice about tooling up with a Ryzen 9.
