So my laptop has slowed down alot and it wasn’t like this when I bought it, before I had about 10-20 fps in Minecraft but now it’s 0 and rarely 1 if I get an ssd will It increase the fps?
As noted, depends on what is dragging it down from 10-20 to 0-1. The biggest clue I see that a HDD is faulty is the 100% disk usage in Task Manager and a CrystalMark report.
However, I don’t expect any FPS increases from SSD alone, just a possible return to where it was given there is nothing more to the story like “I only added shaders or some plug-ins to Minecraft.”
Even so, no gamer I know keeps their HDD.
The only real FPS increases I get is when I find the PC has single channel memory (see google) and we go to dual channel and for desktops, put in a better GPU. I don’t see a lot of gamer PCs with i3 and Celerons any more.
Depends if your current disk is the bottleneck.
Start by defragmenting your existing drives to see if that works.
Be aware that if there is a bottleneck caused by your disk, you may fix that but expose a bottleneck elsewhere in your RAM, Graphics card…etc etc.
Check if your laptop is overheating. Open the task manager while running a game and check the temps. You might need thermal paste replacement. If you are still rocking an HDD in your laptop might as well drop in a new SSD. Also check your RAM usage (also in task manager) to see if there is another program slowing your laptop down. And finally the might as well check your render distance in Minecraft to see if you haven’t accidentally bumped it up.
SSD or HDD could actually be slowing down because they’re beginning to fail…
Especially if it’s more than 3 to 5 years old, I would just clone it to an SSD and then work on the bottle neck from there. Or at least back it up if you don’t have it backed up 😉
It would be more likely that you are running out of system memory or have mods enabled that are causing your CPU to bottleneck. That is to say your CPU is likely limiting your performance. Not having a dedicated GPU doesn’t help either.
Can you post your full hardware list? Cpu, ram speed/amount and graphics
