Honestly, a part of me hopes Plex does tell streaming services and movie studios how much of their stuff I watch without paying them a dime. Otherwise they would have no clue how much money they’re screwing themselves out of with their shitty practices. I want them to lose sleep over it
Steams approach is a wonderful demonstration of the whole “piracy is a service issue.”
If there was a store where you could buy movies for a couple bucks on sale (kind of like a digital blockbuster) it would really help to curb piracy. Though that’s probably because movies are generally multi million dollar endeavors and steam has a lot of indie games with a budget under $1000.
Still though. The point stands. Even big AAA games go on sale. Just sell the movie. Let people buy Avatar for $1, its over ten years old.
