I just received a phishing email containing a url. I copied the url to my browser which prompted a download request that I accepted which downloaded a jpg onto my Mac.

What do I do now?

It’s likely the image will be used to confirm delivery. You may have confirmed your email is live.

That’s why pictures aren’t automatically downloaded in some mail clients.

Just delete it. No need to worry, the chance that someone crafted a jpeg that can hack your computer is very low.

There was an issue with an open jpg library in 2016 but that one has been fixed and so far no active abuse has been reported.
