Hello guys/gals,

I’m looking to build my own Living room steamOS console and want to give a try to Intel A770 (16GB version). Does anyone know if SteamOS currently supports Intel Arc lineup ?

Thanks

AFAIK, the only way to use SteamOS not on a SteamDeck is with the hacky HoloISO/ChimeraOS repackagings. And AFAIK, they only support AMD GPUs, since that’s what’s in the SteamDeck and they’re just jacked up SteamDeck recovery images. Valve has confirmed that they’re still planning on releasing an image of SteamOS that is compatible with DIY PCs, but they have not said when to expect it.

That is an innacurate description of ChimeraOS. Right now ChimeraOS “should” work with Intel Arc GPUs but because none of us have Arc GPUs to test on we can’t guarantee it.

Update: Nvidia GPUs now work with the latest build of HoloISO. There’s still some issues, but by and large, it’s pretty good.

There is no steam os available for general installation.

Manjaro with KDE is one of closet distros.

Holoiso exists but can be touchy. Good chance it will choke on a non and GPU. Consequence of being based on a mod of the steam deck recovery image which is only designed for steam deck.

    you experience will vary.

ChimeraOS should theoretically work with Intel Arc GPUs but none of us on the team actually have an Arc GPU to test with. If you’re willing to give it a try and give us some feedback on Github or at least in r/ChimeraOS it could help others with Arc setups.

Download ChimeraOS & Give it a try! Remember the first boot up will be minimal support for your HW, run it for 10-20 minute sessions and reboot. After the 4-5 reboots you’ll see more native support for your rig.

Curious how the A770 will perform, there is Intel XESS support on some games
