Why has every company that sells VSTs have to have it’s separate “browser”,security key software , download managers and stuff ? Bought a VST today and had to install 4! separate tools. Spent the whole evening installing a trumped. I like to support small companies but they need to figure out a more convenient way to install their products. Or else … NI.
I get your point. But I still think it’s a shame small companies demand so much work from the buyers. Some do the setup process better (XLN) and some do it extremely bad. In the end we are talking about plug ins. They should “plug in” if you know what I mean. It drives people to buy whole libraries from one company, like Native instruments, just because they don’t want their workstation to be bloated with tools and spend evenings on installing VSTs. And about iLok. It works fine. But to have to install something that looks like Windows 8 in 2023 is just frightening. Especially if it just serves the purpose of the seller. I think there are simpler ways to protect your product than to force me into installing weird stuff.
Well the recent transition by Steimberg ftom thrir Syncrosoft dongles to thrir atrocious online activation system is a timely warning what an absolute clusterfucj itxwas, with customers left unable to use their software, and now were left with thrir woeful activation manager.
The buyers asked for it, and very quickly regretted it. Sometimes the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence.
Not aure what your beef either the iLok gui is. I mean considering how often it gets interacted with. Just don’t use their cloud licenses and it will be fine.
