I have some old pcs that I’m going to donate. What’s the safest way to erase the hard drives so none of my data is on there?

Ideally, go to the manufacturer’s website and follow their instructions. Otherwise, Killdisk is a great utility for this: https://www.killdisk.com/eraser.html
Intel recommends it among other tools, but this one is my preferred tool as it works with classic hard drives, solid-state drives, and newer NVME drives without significantly shortening their lifespan: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006198/memory-and-storage.html
