I recently bought a really cheap laptop to use for streaming on my TV. It seems like every time I turn it on “windows modules installer worker” and “service host windows update” are using %100 CPU.
Is that typical? What can or should I do other than try to update it before I want to watch something….
For a really low end computer, that is typical. Go to Windows Update, manually install everything, let it finish rebooting multiple times through the rollups and service packs and major releases. The symptom is probably because of slow eMMC storage, Windows Update behaved simlarly in the days of mechanical hard drives.
Is there any way to stop it from doing these update installs automatically? Or is that not a good idea?
It works fine while streaming at 4k as long as it’s not bogged down updating god knows what…
