So a few days ago I was using my computer when a notification appeared saying hard disk problems detected so I went into the disk app. I clicked on my hard disk, and it said.” drive is likely to fail soon.” Today I heard a few clicks from my hard drive, people who know a bit more about the hardware side of computers Should I be worried?

So you hear a click, Is for sure a mechanical drive, not SSD?

If the that’s the case then clicking means the drive heads are going out, in that case please get a new drive preferably an SSD.

I can’t afford a new drive and plus my ThinkPad isn’t compatible with newer drives. It’s a model T420 since I don’t have money for a new computer either. Thank you for assisting me with this.

I got a older Thinkpad than you and it supports sata. So get a cheap SSD on Amazon. something like a Teamgroup 512GB SSD is only $30 bucks.

The Lenovo Thinkpad T420 supports standard 2.5" SATA drives and it also has a slot for a mSATA SSD.
