i have already bought some thermal paste but too afraid to do it myself (mainly because i’m clumsy) and so i was wondering how much it would cost out of pocket for a store tech to replace my thermal paste in my laptop. my laptop’s cpu has been peaking lower 90’s in temps lately in fallout 4 (on high, not even ultra) and my gpu has been hitting mid-higher 80’s in temps which is scaring me quite a bit since before, it never got that high.

again, just to put it short: how much would it cost for a tech to repaste my gaming laptop

Why do you think you need your thermal paste replaced on your laptop? How long have you had it, what is it used for, is it filled with dust? A shop may charge 100+ to do this it all depends on what’s actually wrong with it.

      1. Can feel the heat through my laptops keyboard and a program like hwinfo saying that I’m being throttled when gaming (especially since fallout4 is a game that requires at least 600 series GPU from Nvidia)

      2. I’ve had it for a year (got it on my birthday), gaming is the most used, not sure if it’s filled with dust as I can’t get a screw to latch to my screwdriver because the screw chipped itself after being opened 2 times.

I could see a shop charging 100+. I would suggest doing.a bunch of research on your specific laptop model and doing it yourself. It’s really not that difficult. I’m not liable if you mess up though. But it may be a good learning experience especially if you’re tight on cash.

Having those temps aren’t too worrying for me for a laptop, and if it’s a older computer to. Thermal paste usually last year’s before needing replacement, and thermal pads usually last forever as long as there’s been no damage. If you still want to continue on, tech shops usually have a fixed cost to touch your computer no matter the work required, they usually have it on there website but can range from $30-$100

It’s a model that’s roughly 2 years old, had it for a year and can feel the heat through my keyboard which brought me to the conclusion to repaste my laptop.

I’ll mention again, those temps aren’t to high for a laptop, you may get another year out of the paste before needing it replaced

Those temps aren’t bad but more importantly why are you asking Reddit instead of calling shops to get quotes? Prices will vary from shop to shop and even more across regions
