Hey all,
Not sure if this is a thing? But can I plug an external harddrive into my wireless router (that my internet is hooked up through) and be able to access the hard drive wirelessly? The router only has Lan ports on the back can I use an adapter? Or would I need a different router? A special one with USB ports?
Help? Lol thank you in advance
Check out a Synology Diskstation. They start at like $100. You throw a hard drive in and then connect the device to your router. You get a website to drag and drop files to for sharing with everyone in your house - whether you’re at home or not.
I used to do this until I discovered my TV would play MKV files directly from usb lol.
You will need a router with a USB port, it’s essentially a NAS. But yes, you can access your hard drive remotely.
If you’re on your own network, it’ll populate in your computer under network devices.
If you’re on a different network, you’ll need to set it up in your router, to have access outside of the network. Usually with an IP and a port.
Best of luck!
