So a while ago I spilt sprite into my computer and it kinda just mucked everything up including the external hard drive plugged into it, tried replacing the cable to see if it helped by it still has issues staying connected and is also noticeably a lot slower when transferring files to and from it than before.
I am going to buy a new one but I want to know if there was anything to possibly try and fix it, or maybe some other way to use it? ( Seagate Backup Plus Portable Hard Drive 1TB - p/n: 1K9AP1-502 ) Was also wondering of any possible suggestions as well. Thanks : ]
Connect it to another PC and test it. Does it have the same issues? If not then the drive is probably fine, the issue is your PC, perhaps the USB ports were damaged from the spill.
The suggestion to remove the drive from the case may work, or may not. In the past external drives were just internal drives connected to a USB adapter inside the case. Pull the drive and you have a regular SATA drive you can connect internally. Now though many of those drives are NOT regular SATA drives. Where you’d normally have the SATA cable and power connections is a USB adapter soldered to the drive instead.
Thank you I’ll try this when I can :D
How slow is slow? First thing I’d suspect is possibly dodgy cable and/or connectors forcing it down to USB 2 speeds.
Popping it open and taking the drive out to attach it internally over a SATA cable would be possible if it’s a desktop.
Can’t give an exact number but, I used it mainly for recording games, around an hour or two recordings w OBS, and when I’d click stop recording before it would take a max of 2 seconds to stop, but now it sometimes never stops and i end up having to close obs.
