I have an intel nuc running windows 11 pro. The sole purpose of this pc is to run a cnc machine. It is connected to the internet so I can access it remotely.

I can not stop the updates and it’s driving me insane. I’ve done a lot of googling, unticked every box but it’s still pushing updates through and every second time I turn it on it installs a bunch of updates. I also get constant requests to enable cortina and set up one drive. When these pop ups occur it breaks the remote access functionality.

The program I use for cnc is UCCNC. It can be a bit finicky and it absolutely hates change. Nearly every update breaks it in some way which requires a bunch of reconfiguring. Due to the nature of cnc machines, issues like this going unnoticed can be a very dangerous and expensive affair.

All I want is a simple pc that I can run my cnc program. I don’t want ads, I don’t want updates, I don’t want one drive and I definitely don’t want cortina. I just want something that is stable and is exactly the same every time I turn it on.

Is there any way to make windows 11 do this? I’d really appreciate any answers or help.

Do you have issues with windows 10 as well or is it specifically 11? If not i would just install 10 but youll probably have to reconfigure your cnc software.

Or have you tried looking into group policy for disabling updates? Im pretty sure theres a lot of different policies you can change that affect updates.

Windows server or linux might be good alternatives if your software has a version for it.
