After just two years of light use, the keyboard on my HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-dk0xxx is on the fritz. In particular, the following keys sometimes don’t do anything when pressed:

  • 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, and 0 on the number row
  • 1 and 4 on keypad
  • Right and down arrows
  • Left alt

I’m pretty well tech illiterate, but I might naïvely guess that the intermittent appearance of my issue and that it’s always the same exact group of keys acting up suggests that there’s a loose connection somewhere inside my machine.

Things I’ve already tried:

  • Re-installing my keyboard drivers
  • Air-dusting underneath the keys

If possible, I would like to avoid doing invasive surgery on my computer to resolve this. I have also read elsewhere that the keyboard is plastic-welded to the top case and that replacing the whole keyboard is nontrivial and expensive as a result.

you can always buy a separate USB keyboard and use that instead of the integrated keyboard.
