  • Hi there,

What you likely have is a false positive by McAfee. Assuming that you did download the correct file from the website you linked, there shouldn’t have been any malware installed on your system since AOC (as far as I am aware) is a reputable company. The program likely needed to access some part of your system info to detect your monitor, which triggered the antivirus (which would probably also explain why the app wasn’t able to work in the first place, since McAfee thinking it was a virus probably stopped it from accessing anything that it needed to work). In short, you’re probably fine, McAfee just tends to give false positives from time to time.

As an aside, I would highly recommend switching away from McAfee if you can- it isn’t the best for protection and it can also slow down your system a ton with all of the resources it uses and additional “tools” that it comes packaged with. Windows Defender is enough for most people as long as you know not to click on any suspicious links, but if you want a third party software for better peace of mind, I would suggest looking into some other options that have a lower performance impact with better protection- in my experience Bitdefender and Malwarebytes are pretty good, but again you should be fine with just Windows Defender as long as you’re practicing basic internet safety.
