    So I just bought one of these and it should be delivered today. I also didn’t know about tunarr and the idea of making my own channels is like catnip so this little maneuver is gonna cost me 51 years of my spare time.

      Man I haven’t thought about mythtv for at least 15 years, the last time I paid for cable. Ran off 2 expensive ass cablecard tuners that I spent a solid week tweaking to get it to work right lmao

      I’ve carried my TV tuner from MythTV to Plex to Jellyfin, and I must say MythTV was the most stable by far. The latter two will throw a random error half the time, and the other half it breaks within 5 minutes.

        at one point i had 3 tuners in a box grabbing satellite/cable/ota

        but storage was expensive back then. ack. while recording all that i started thinking… how am i going to organize all this shit. which lead to many a nas.

        i went from myth --> sagetv --> xbmc/emby (ha, now kodi/jellyfin)

        i miss sage… it was great, modern… lightweight. google bought the company for their code and killed it outright.

    You can also just run a docker that emulates hd home run with an iptv subscription. $30-40 a year on z2u and you get basically every channel in the world

    It’s really only necessary if you want fairly reliable access to sports, local news channels, and/or want to see live tv actually live though. And if you want to use Jellyfin rather than a proper iptv client like tivimate or uhf you’ll need something that can customize the playlist to skip 95% of the channels. Iptv usually comes with literal thousands of channels. iptv applications are fine with but live tv in Jellyfin is an afterthought so once you get past 1-200 channels or so it can really make shit drag to a crawl. Tbf this makes navigation of the guide easier, you don’t have 10,000 foreign language channels you’ll never watch to scroll through, but if you’re watching for sports it can be a pain bc a lot of providers add and delete channels for specific game streams so you might have to constantly edit the playlist to add game channels and prune dead streams. Though I think there are some projects like teamarr that try to mitigate this
