Hi guys, I have a Dell Precision 5820 Tower (will include detailed specs below) which I initially bought to do 3D rendering, animation, and graphic work with software like Unreal Engine, CLO 3D, Blender, 3D Max, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator.
However, just like some others I read on Reddit who also are facing the same issue as me, it is frustrating when the startup takes a long time, even opening an app like Spotify takes forever if I am lucky and at times, just won’t open up. Other basic tasks like replying to emails, or transferring files take 4ever as well. My taskbar hung on me several times, I have reached out to Dell’s support and reinstalled my entire system. It did solve the issue but all the other issues like slow reaction time when I open an app still exist.
I am considering selling this away and purchasing an Alienware PC (which I know some great 3D designers own and work well for them). HOWEVER, I am aware that my 5820 Tower has some pretty good specs. So I am willing to learn how to put in/exchange some spare parts in my 5820 Tower if it will help with all these slow and laggy issues I am facing. Or if there is no hope at all, I will sell and get another PC. (I am honestly not a PC expert, I just know the basics like what processor, RAM…)
Thanks everybodehhh in advance!
This is my current Dell Precision 5820 Tower specs: (I didn’t even realise the Dell sales guy did not include the Wifi/Bluetooth reader until my PC arrived.)
1 Intel Xeon Processor W-2265 (12C 3.5GHz 4.8GHz Turbo HT 19.25MB 165W DDR4-2933)
1 Intel Integrated controller (RST-e) with 1-2 Front FlexBay NVMe PCIe Drives
1 Precision 5820 Tower 950W PCIe FlexBay Chassis CL
1 Slim ODD bezel, 100% tie with slim ODD
1 64GB 4X16GB DDR4 3200MHZ RDIMM ECC memory
1 Dell M.2 carrier
4 No Hard Drive
1 3.5" 1TB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
1 M.2 1TB PCIe NVMe Class 40 Solid State Drive
1 CPU Heatsink 5820 Tower
1 8x DVD-ROM 9.5mm Optical Disk Drive
1 System Power Cord (China)
1 Regulatory Label, Dell Precision T5820 CCC2,950W
1 Nvidia RTX A4000, 16GB, 4DP (Precision 7920T, 7820, 5820)
2 No Driver
1 No Additional Network Card Selected (Integrated NIC included)
1 Dell MS116 Wired Mouse Black
1 Dell Wired Keyboard KB216 Black
1 Dell Developed Recovery Environment
1 SupportAssist
1 No SATA RAID
Just an FYI, I have a Dell Precision 3650 Tower at work and that works absolutely perfectly fine. The only flaw is that when I start rendering or working with heavy textured products, it starts lagging, and render time is slow. So I need something more powerful than that.
Thanks again, would appreciate all of your great views/suggestions on this!
Just add an SSD to it, install the OS on the SSD and only use the current hard drive for storing stuff you don’t need to access fast.
It’s incredible that the system didn’t have an SSD from the start, a 7200rpm hard drive is 30 times slower than a cheap SSD today, that’s what’s slowing you down.
