hey, I’m looking to send a piano VST through some hardware effect pedals, and then record it again via the same interface via which I’m sending the VST out. I just tried this and ended up with feedback.

what I then did was create an out bus, route it to one of the outs of my interface, select that as the output in “routing” in mix console for the VST… run that output on interface out into the effect, and then go into an input on my interface. but when I do that, I don’t hear any of my effect pedal, only the raw VST signal. I can’t tell where I’m going wrong, and now I’m traumatized by feedback.

can anyone ELI5 this for me? or does anyone have experience with this and know what my glaring mistake might be? could it be in my interface settings?..

thanks much

Make sure the vst channel is being set to that new output from the inspector, make sure the external effect is recieving signal (if it doesn’t have an input light then plug its output into an amp or headphones to test). If you are all good there then it should just be a matter of getting the effect recorded into cubase as usual.

Can’t you use Cubase’s external effect feature? This way you can use it like an insert in your piano channel without messing with buses and outputs.
