I have a HP Pavilion 14" laptop (14-dv2504sa), product ID is 6L7L8EA#ABU. It is just a year old. I accidently split nail varnish remover across the keyboard which damaged it badly. The screen and touchscreen function still works fine, and the wireless mouse too. Externally it looks fine but the keyboard is all over the place. Some keys work but others don’t at all or a random selection of letters/numbers are inputted when I press others.
I brought it to a local repair shop and was quoted 800 euro to fix it. The tech said on this model the keyboard, touchpad etc are all one solid piece of the palm rest so that entire component would need to be replaced. At that price it just made more sense to purchase a new laptop which I did. I don’t have any experience with computer hardware but I always replace the screen and batteries in my smartphones myself, I also replaced the joy-cons in my switch so I decided I could try replacing the keyboard myself and then I would have a backup laptop.
The problem I am having is finding the correct part for sale. I tried the HP Parts store but when I enter the model, product number or serial number I don’t get any results for a keyboard or palm rest. There are a lot of models of HP Pavilion laptops so I am assuming keyboards from similar models might also be compatible. I just don’t know how to find that out. Any help would be very much appreciated!
You could also just hook a USB keyboard up to it.
