Hi, I’d like to occasionally connect my desktop to my living room tv for casual gaming. I can run an hdmi cable under the flooring (I know it’ll probably be too long for hdmi spec but I’ll burn that bridge when I get to it). My question is how to prevent it from using up GPU resources when it’s not in use? I also don’t want it to turn on the TV whenever the PC wakes. I also don’t want to wear out the connector. Any suggestions?
The Connected device wake up this should be a feature you can turn off in the TVs settings. You might need to do some googling, as I believe different manufacturers call that feature different names. Also on the computer side you should be able to change the display settings to not use the TV.
It should be as simple as connecting the HDMI to PC and TV and then changing settings on both devices.
Looks like you’ve solved your problem, so all I have to add is that
but I’ll burn that bridge when I get to it
This is pretty funny. Like how a Viking would solve their problem.
Hey if you use steam- smart tvs have the steam link app- does exactly what you are wanting through your local network without stringing cables
