On my desktop a txt file appeared titled “I’m watching” with the inner text saying “Always watching”. I was freaked out
Prior to this, my laptop was having what I thought were hardware problems, where it would have trouble starting up and would crash after the screen glitched out and showed a load of flickering squares.
I deleted the txt file and ran Malwarebytes and quarantined all of the files it suggested
Looking back, I haven’t really downloaded anything sketchy in the past while
My current plan is to do nothing and monitor all my accounts unless something else sketchy happens then I will factory reset the laptop and reinstall Windows.
Or should I factory reset the laptop now? The only reason I haven’t is because I haven’t backed up before this and I have a decent amount of personal files I’d like to keep.
Sorry if this is dumb, I know very little about computers
Go offline, using a live Linux USB, backup data, delete partitions in Linux, clean install windows. https://rtech.support/docs/live-sessions https://rtech.support/windows
Is the live Linux USB necessary if I decide to not bother backing up? I’d like to keep some files but they’e not essential - if it’s less hassle Ill wipe and make peace with losing my files
