So I don’t think there’s a fix to my problem but I want to be sure.
I am using my PC as a monitor and my TV is connected via HDMI cable.
These are my specs: Intel® Core™ i5-10400F CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz. Comes with 8GB of RAM. My graphics card is a GTX 1660 Ti.

So I think the biggest thing I overlooked was the 60Hz refresh rate. All of my games are dropping frames. This is the worst for retro games I’m emulating–stuff like Sonic and Super Mario Bros can’t keep up at all when I’m running in the game and I’m dropping frames like crazy. LITERALLY UNPLAYABLE. But like, for real.
I’ve messed with a lot of Retroarch settings: V-sync on/off, GPU sync 0-1, different video drivers, etc. Nothing makes it better. I’m losing frames in Steam games as well. Even stuff like Hollow Knight.
Because the TV is 75 inches, is a 60Hz refresh rate just not enough to game without dropping frames? I do have the TV set to game mode also.
Sounds like your configuration’s ass then, sonic/SMB are fixed almost-60Hz games (at least assuming you’re trying to run the NTSC versions), so fixed 60Hz monitor should only give very occasional frame dupe/drops if you have retroarch set to follow correct speed. And if you set retroarch to follow output refresh rate you should almost never get drops/dupes but have game speed slightly wrong.
Also I might be describing the issue wrong. In Retroarch when I put the fps indicator on it does stay close to 60 when I play SMB, but when I run in the game it’ll just sort of skips for a moment…almost like the screen blinked. That’s frame drop right? Then why does my counter still say I’m maintaining 60 fps?
How often? NES exact framerate is more like 60.1FPS, so would expect a dropped frame every 10 seconds if you’ve got emulator set to sync on exact timing/audio.
Yes, 60 fps seems fine on YouTube.
