I don’t use an iPhone, btw. In currently using a hand-me-down Haiwei (idk if that’s spelled right).
I was trying to go to removeddit (I think that’s how it’s spelled), and typed in a reddit link with “removedit” instead of removeddit. Idk which ones right, or if that sites even still around, but I got a pop-up saying my device was compromised. I immediately exited the site and tried a virus scan, though idk if the scan worked as I’m not very tech-literate. I’ll probably ask my dad about this in the morning, but everyone’s asleep rn so idk. I’m kinda nervous, as I have some important stuff on my phone. I don’t know what to do.
Sorry if I’m on the wrong subreddit.
Try to uninstall and reinstall your web browsers, as some sites will try to install suspicious browser extensions. If you find any extension you didn’t install, remove it or do a virus scan on your computer.
You’re fine, you just need to close that browser tab.
Removeddit and Ceddit no longer work anyway.
Ah, I didn’t know that. Thanks!
Reveddit works though
You are welcome. There are some similar sites that have come up, such as Unddit, but I haven’t had much luck with it working for me. I think a lot of these sites broke with the API changes Reddit put in place a while back.
Not go to that site again.
Thank you, I won’t!
Just clicking a suspicious link is almost never enough to compromise a computer or device if it has the latest security updates. Always keep your operating system and applications (especially web browser) updated. Outdated software should not be used on the internet as the risk of vulnerabilities increases.
Some malicious pages try to download files, open new tabs, show fake error messages, send notifications, or spoof legitimate login screens (“phishing”) - delete any downloaded files immediately and do not open them. Do not allow notifications. Do not enter any information on a login page. Close the web browser and any affected tabs.
If you entered any information into a phishing page, immediately change your password(s). Use a password manager with unique passwords for each site or service. Enable Multi Factor Authentication (MFA or 2FA) for every service that supports it.
If you ran a downloaded file, assume that it was malware and follow the steps in our malware guide.
Ignore claims about “IP grabbing” - IP addresses are public knowledge and cannot be used to directly attack you. They do not show your precise location.

Removeddit is a web-based tool that is used to retrieve deleted Reddit posts.
a bit like the non facebook site that lets you see visitors to your page, just give them your fb login details :)
