Hey I just started producing recently, I bought Cubase Artist 12 so I only have the VSTs it comes with (Halion Sonic SE, Retrologue 2, Padshop 2, Groove Agent SE 5) and some free ones from here and there and I need more instruments/sounds. I just saw Absolute 6 went on a 50% sale and my understanding is that it’s a bundle of a lot of VSTs/sounds from Steinberg. Do you think it’s a good purchase as a starting point? Again, I’m quite new so I’m trying to make sense of things, any advice would help!

For what do you need more sounds? With cubase artist you have more sounds you‘ll ever use! If you can define a special sound you won’t find in the artist plugins, you can buy a specific plugin for that. But for a newbie I would suggest make music with the tools you have. I‘ll guess you‘ll find 98% of the sounds you need in the stock plugins in cubase.

yes, learn the basics first. It’s a common beginner’s mistake to buy sounds and plugins that you then don’t use

I feel like Komplete is still more interesting than Absolute when it comes to the value it bundles

I love Absolute and I think it is a great foundation if not the best foundation you can have to keep yourself busy for a while.

I think there is a trial period with every Steinberg product. You can try them out and see for yourself.

From my experience with the trial, I only tried Halion 7 and its a powerhouse and has vast amounts of usable presets.

There is no Trial for Absolute which makes sense, since it’s a bundle of VSTs, but I am fairly sure that there is a trial for each individual VST in Absolute.
So in essence I believe you are correct, just not a trial for the bundle itself.

Absolute is amazing - hidden gem! Backbone is worth it all in my opinion and if it’s on sale, really valuable if it was all I had to use it would be all you need.
