I have had the most frustrating year. It all started late 2022 when a xfinity employee came to my house to replace one of our old modems to the new white one. When I got home that night and wanted to play some games I saw that I was having really bad connection issues where it would kick me from games and so on. I couldn’t even stream…I made some calls to xfinity and they told me to move it closer and have a wired connection because previously I had no wired connection, but it was doing just fine. And just to clarify that the modem was in my parents room (downstairs) while the PS5 was in my room (upstairs) and so like anyone would do I listened to the person on the phone and moved it closer and gave it a wired connection. I noticed that some of the problems went away but was still having trouble getting connected/ staying in voice chat and even some games like GTA and Fortnite. My frustration was getting to its peak so I called back and the Xfinity employee claimed that they did all that they could and that it’s a problem on Sonys end. So I called Sony. And to my surprise they suggested the same thing, to move the modem closer and plug it in directly to the PS5 then followed it up by its a problem with your modem. So I go to my nearest Xfinity store and get the NEWEST 10g modem. I come home plug it in and for about 20 min it was perfect. Then it all went down hill. I was expecting the same issues. So what did I do….called Xfinity AGAIN and this time I made an appointment for something to come to my home. The first thing I was asked is how is the connection to my other devices and I said it was amazing. Which it is. So he suggested we get a “better plan” that “supports gaming” so we did. I now pay for 1200Mbps and when I am running a connection test on my PS5 I got anywhere from 70-90 mbps download and 5-30 upload which I’ve heard was good but my PS5 is STILL struggling to keep me in lobby’s. It struggling to stay in a Fortnite lobby and can barely connect to a GTA 5 lobby that actually has more than me in it. I have been looking at Reddit for the last year taking in all the information saying you can change the frequency to 2.4 or five and I’ve done that multiple times and I’m still getting no luck.
I am running out of ideas and sooooo close to trashing my PS5. Someone please help me….
I’m quite confused.
Is your PS5 connected to the Xfinity gateway directly using an Ethernet cable or are you connecting your PS5 to the Xfinity gateway using WiFi?
