My friend recently built their own pc for the first time using pre-owned parts they sourced from Ebay and CEX. When building he noticed that one of the cpu pins was bent but managed to gently straighten it without any problems.
After building it, he said that after turning on the PSU from the back the fans and lights would immediately come on but he wouldn’t get any display on the monitor. As well as this, the power switch and reset switch don’t work on the front panel.

I offered to take a look at it for them as I have slightly more experience with building pcs. I did notice that three of the motherboard standoffs/screws had not been fitted but other than that the build looked good.

So far I have tried:

  • Taking it all apart, refitting the missing screws, and putting it back together
  • Checked the CPU power connector as well as all other connections to the motherboard
  • Checked that the GPU/RAM/CPU was seated correctly (including checking thermal paste)
  • Checked the CPU fan is plugged in
  • Reset CMOS
  • Tried different monitors (including different cables DP/HDMI)

Despite all of this, the same issues remain. I suspect that perhaps the motherboard is fried. Is there anything I am missing to confirm this without getting a multimeter? I can’t check the parts on another motherboard as unfortunately my spares are only intel and AM4.
Thank you!
Specs:

CPU: AMD FX8350

Do you have a speaker to connect to the motherboard?(The one that beeps post codes, its usually shipped with the mobo/case.) If so, try to boot it without the ram or CPU. If it won’t beep any fault code, then it should be a clear indication that the motherboard is dead.
