Your Internet address is already being constantly subjected to hack attacks.

Every website you visit knows your public IP address, it is not private information, it is simply a path back to your router.

Don’t panic, there’s nothing to worry about.

Gonna need significantly more context, but generally you would avoid giving out your public IP without a reason.

They can hack into your sockets once they got your ip. So just reset every socket by turning it off and on again

I think something missed in the replies is that the situation to avoid is letting a potentially malicious actor associate a public IP address with your online identity.

There are many places online that can see “your” address but it is effectively anonymous since it’s the same as any other address.

But if you were to, say, post your IP here (don’t), then that address is now associated with your identity here. You may be anonymous in the sense that we don’t know who you are “in real life”, but you are not anonymous in the sense that you have an identity on this website. Sharing your address would needlessly give anyone who wants to attack “you” an opportunity that they would not otherwise have.
