Hey guys. I’m posting on here for the first time ever because I literally cannot find anything on the internet that is similar to what just happened to me, lol.
I was laying in bed when my boyfriend called me. He asked why I called him, which is a joke he makes sometimes when he calls me. I went along with it before he was like “no, really, you called me.” I didn’t. It said he called me and I answered. The call dropped and I thought he hung up. He thought I hung up. I called back and we said “I guess the call dropped?” Not long after us both being like umm ok what is happening, he says he is getting another call and reads out the number. IT’S MY OLD PHONE NUMBER? I changed my number about 6 years ago and this same exact old number was calling him. Keep in mind he never had my old number and I never called/texted him from that number.
Anyway, wtf is going on and what do I need to do lol. I’ve looked up spoofing and I guess that makes sense but I’m just really bewildered at what just happened. I’m planning on calling Verizon in the morning and seeing what they say, but does anyone have any clue how that happened? Very interested in the logistics of all this lmao.
For context: I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, my cell carrier is Verizon. I just want to get this nipped in the bud in case my phone somehow starts calling other people.
Sometimes when you change your phone number the old number becomes someone else’s, and when the other person links that number to a messaging application the contacts of the old number are saved.
