Now, about a year ago, my pc basically had gotten so laggy and unreliable out of seemingly nowhere that i had to format it.
boom, done, thought it was just a weird glitch or maybe a virus that i had aciddentally installed, and hey, things were doing just fine after it, so i didn’t pay much thought to it. That was, until, not even a year after, the same problem rears its ugly head once again…
(keep in mind i had this pc for YEARS without this error showing up, which makes this sudden return of the error all the more concerning)
However, this time i did decide to try fixing this error “once and for all”, i tried so many hypotheses and ways of cleaning my computer, and ultimately came down to something going on with my hard drive, i learned about defragmentation and fully went through with it, i’ll be honest, it did improve… for like, a day, and very slightly, i decided to give up and format it again, second times the charm i guess.
Well, here we are, less than half a year after formatting it once again, the problem has shown up again, and to be fair, im absolutely sure its nothing to do with the digital side of my computer, it very clearly is a phisical piece of it that isn’t working properly, and after looking through the internet, i found out something i didn’t know about… apparently hard drives… go bad??? Look im sorry if this sounds stupid but, is it really that simple? could my pc’s TERRIBLE performace be all due to me simply not replacing an old hard drive? Should i go ahead and spend the extra money to get an ssd?
TL:DR: Huge performace issues that keep happening faster and faster after formatting pc, is my old hard drive responsible? should i get an ssd?
About the linux part, this is a mostly entertainment pc, i use it to play games (not super performace intense ones, mostly some indies here and there), so i don’t really use it for those purposes
Now, while my hard drive may be old, the entire pc isn’t that old, in fact i have an rtx 2060 which i sure do hope isn’t classfied as old hardware, now my cpu is kinda old but really, most of the tracking problems on task manager have been disk based so i kinda scrapped the cpu hypotheses
But yeah, i’ll look into the ssd ASAP, thanks for the help
