Hi all, this morning when I got to work, my business internet is blocked on all devices. When I try to connect, a new tab opens in my browser, you can see a screenshot of it here.

It opens to Shell Energy Broadband telling me my account is suspended until I pay them. I’m certain this is a scam as firstly, my broadband is not with Shell Energy, it is with BT (I live in the UK, in case this is relevant). Secondly, the misuse of “You’re” instead of “Your” which I underlined in the screenshot, seems suspicious. Lastly, the phone numbers given on this page to arrange payment do not match the phone numbers I find for Shell Energy when looking online.

I have had to come home and use my home internet to figure out what is going on, but after a brief bit of searching, I think this might be what’s called a DNS hijack as its restricting my internet access and only redirecting to that page when I attempt to connect to the wifi.

Following advice I read online, I ran a malware check on my laptop, cleared all data from the browser and restarted the laptop. But the problem must be on the router as it is blocking all devices on the network. I did a factory reset of the router and I am still having this problem.

Has anyone had any experience with this or can anyone advise what to do? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Have you contacted your ISP? Factory reset on the router should’ve cleared the problem unless the malware managed to overwrite the firmware.
