Hello, my ex sent me two apple trackers to put on our dogs in case they get lost. I don’t want him knowing my location though as he has broken into my apartment before. These apple trackers were sent to me from him and not from an Apple Store. How can I make sure it isn’t connected to him and he can’t see my location? And if it is connected to him how can I unconnect it?

Throw them away. If they’re your dogs / not the ex’s and you’re worried about them maybe running away get tags yourself so you’ll know they’re clean.

Well if some random crazy dude gave you these on the streets, would you use them? Probably not. Hate to tell you, you dated the crazy dude. The only reason you are considering this, is because you know this crazy dude.

you have to think of him as the crazy dude on the street that you know breaks into places now and then, youd never trust that guy, so why trust this guy, its the same dude.

If he sent them to you, I would destroy them ASAP. Why you would accept anything from him is crazy to me considering he broke into your house.

Sounds like a trust worthy guy…. Why are you still communicating with this person enough for them to send you an obvious Trojan horse.

Don’t use AirTags for pet trackers. Apple is very clear about it.

Get yourself a good GPS/Cellular pet tracker.

I would activate them trackers and take them to the police station so when he does something stupid he’ll fuck around and find out.

Reset your Apple password on the Apple website today!

If there’s any chance he has access to your data, get rid of the AirTags. If he is not part of your Apple Account for your phone (for sure) you can reset them and keep them for some time when you want the functionality of AirTags. Reset them like this ONLY if he doesn’t have access and isn’t on your account with another iPhone.

    “How to reset your AirTag:”

Press down on the polished stainless steel battery cover of your AirTag and rotate counterclockwise until the cover stops rotating.

Remove the cover and the battery.

    Replace the battery.

Press down on the battery until you hear a sound. This sound means that the battery is connected.

When the sound finishes, repeat the process four more times, removing and replacing the battery, then pressing down on the battery until you hear a sound. You should hear a sound each time you press on the battery, for a total of five sounds. The fifth sound is different from the previous four. This indicates that the AirTag has factory reset and is now ready to pair.

Replace the cover by aligning the three tabs on the cover with the three slots on your AirTag.

    Press down on the cover.

Rotate the cover clockwise until it stops rotating. You’re done. He can’t see them anymore. Pair them with your phone or save them.

Take them to the post office in the packaging -if you still have it- and write “return to sender” on them. If you can’t do that, wipe them or destroy them, possibly even recycling them, some places will recycle/ let you safely dispose of broken or old tech. Just drop it off there.

Also check out the Home defense sub so you can prevent future break ins from him.
