Hi.
I was looking for a version of SteamOS that doesnt need UEFI. My motherboard (GA970A-UD3) does not have the option to activate UEFI.
I found some Versions, but the problem is that the links are already outdated so i cant download them.
Is there any option?
Just use the latest Ubuntu, it’s officially supported by valve and legacy-bootable
Nope. Not only should you not try to use old versions of SteamOS, but newer versions aren’t likely to support ancient non-UEFI platforms.
There is no modern release of steam os. Do not 8nstall steam os 2.0, it’s a security back door at this point.
Use Ubuntu or arch vanilla or one of the gaming distros. they will handle UEFI or bios just fine.
Steamos3.0 desktop release is a long, long way away, as they have stated they will work on mobile gaming hardware compatibility first.
Likely they are finding supporting infinite configurations to be a challenge.
I see. Is there a faming distro which i can control with an xboxcontroller?
there are a few designed for gaming. chimeraOS is probably one of the closest, as it’s also arch iirc and I think its designed for controler, but never used it. there are a binch of them that were inspired when steamos cameo out and a few that existed before
ChimeraOS is also UEFI-only, legacy BIOS boot is no longer supported. Sorry.
Any of them, just make Steam Big Picture start automatically.
I had the same mobo back in the day and it did have UEFI but it looks like the feature is only in revision 3.0.
It says that i have to Boot in UEFI mode, but i didnt find any option to boot with uefi. In the bios there is an option to Boot with EFI activated, but only with CD/DVD :(
Easiest way to test if UEFI booting is supported is to create a Windows installer USB stick with the Media Creation Tool.
What are you using for a video card?
It perhaps sounds like playing Super Mario 4 with the first nes. The feature of UEFI is needed to be considered.
