My Lenovo ThinkPad E570, which uses two SSDs, is still just as fast as it was out of the box. It’s been dropped a few times over the years (such as getting knocked off of a TV tray), but the only noticeable internal damage is the loss of its Bluetooth module, which I’ve simply tolerated ever since.

Other than its lack of BT (and obviously its terrible battery by now; I’m always AC-plugged), everything about it is perfectly fine, but I guess I feel like I dread the day when it may suddenly just stop working for whatever reason, and am wondering about whether I should buy a new laptop preemptively. How old could a Win10 Home last?

Windows 10 Home EOL is October 14, 2025 assuming you’ve already updated to 22H2, so unless you’re willing to migrate to Linux, that’s your cut-off point if you’re concerned about security holes since Microsoft won’t provide security updates anymore. Apps and websites will still work, but slowly more and more apps and browsers won’t support it in their later updates.
