I’m creating a virtual machine in hyper-v, and also a virtual switch. I have nordvpn and intend to run the virtual switch using it. I’m unsure of some of the settings though, can anyone recommend a good walkthrough or tutorial on this?
I’m unsure of (for example)
- When creating the virtual switch, do I select “TAP-NordVPN […]” as the external network, or do I use the physical network card and then run Nord on the VM?
- Do I need to enable virtual LAN identification for management operating system?
I know generally what’s going on here, but I’m far from an expert, help!
Try using the TAP to start; it should work with that. If it doesn’t work, contact Nord for support. They could be doing anything with their VPN client, including blocking guests.
You should not need to turn on VLAN tagging if it’s a regular VPN endpoint.
Nord will do nothing to protect you from malware. It isn’t a security appliance. It isn’t any more secure than regular old TLS. All it really does is provide anonymity from your ISP.
