My girlfriend just updated her phone and wanted to see what the new call screen looked like so when I was with her I called her. When she answered she put her phone on speaker and all we heard were two people talking in a different language.

Anyone know why or how this happened? Hacked Apple account, or just a random coincidence? Thanks!

Used to happen ALL THE TIME. there are thousands of calls going through the line and some times calls could combine with very similar waves traveling the wire. Usaully leading to one party being able to hear the other while the other party might not even know somebody else is able to here. THAT is the SCARY part. similar with cellular waves the other party call was close to the same wave as yours. We used to just say that the “lines got crossed”

I’ve had this happen with WebEx (think Zoom competetor) before. My boss and I jumped onto a conference call, and we somehow got dropped into a meeting with a few people speaking Chinese. We relaunched our meeting and it fixed the problem. It’s probably just a bug in the software.

She may of had a foreign couple staying with her and she tried to pass it off as a phone glitch. This happened to me in the past. My girlfriend unbeknownst to me was in a thruple with an Austrian couple. We were living in differed cities at the time. I’d call her to talk and I here people speaking German in the background—sometimes techno music. She tell me it was just a crossed lined. Eventually I did a surprise visit. The couple was home and she was out shopping. I stayed and waited for her. The look on her face when she saw me on waiting for her in their apartment was priceless. After that I sold all my possessions and joined the Peace Corp.

Are you sure it wasn’t just crosstalk interference from two phones in close proximity?

These things happen. You need to remember that virtually EVERY phone call happening in the USA is being recorded and monitored.

What used to happen to me, I would call with my mom. We would talk for an hour or so and then the call would drop, only for her to be calling me immediately. I mean, like the moment I pulled my phone away from my head, there was a call coming in. I would answer it and it was a recording of my mom. FROM THE BEGINNING of the phone call. And it was only her voice. From an hour ago.

I would hang up, call her back and we would get connected no problem.

The phone system is way F*ckier than we realize.

I worked in a call center several years ago, and our phone system had a similar bug to this. all of our calls were recorded, and sometimes I would start hearing a recording of the caller. for them the call disconnected, but on my end it appeared as if we still were in the call. it was weird.

Multiple, completely normal things, could be the case here. One I don’t see being talked about is digital signal being used for audio and compression/decompression. Any noise in the signal could get garbled in the process and come out corrupted and weird.

And as technologies get developed to be aiding tools to help people, something could be trying to turn garbage into words you understand. And at that stage garbage in, new language out.

I’ve had phone lines cross when I was in NY for a couple days. I could hear dozens of people talking for a couple seconds

Not saying it was crossed lines, but sometimes when you make a call it will be on a channel/frequency all phones share the ability to use the same frequencys.

However, when you make a call your phone seeks open channels and perhaps the channel it picked was occupied but when the phone decoded the channel it didn’t realize it was occupied as both phones may have simultaneously picked the same channel.

As you make a phone call when your phone says dialing then connected, for the first brief moment you are not supposed to hear anything but new phones are so fast to connect the call you may hear random sounds of occupied channels.
