Hey y’all,

I’ve been paying for 1,200 mbps via Xfinity and noticed our internet sucks from time to time. I use the equipment they gave me cause I had no idea my own would be better until browsing some threads on here.

A fiber company (Fidium) just ran a line through my backyard and are much cheaper too, so thinking about switching. They have plans for 50mbps-2gigs

What kind of mbps should I need? Should I use their equipment or get my own?

I also read that you should hardwire devices rather than WiFi but how the heck do I do that if I’m in a two story without having cables all over the place?

I’d take a local fiber ISP over Xfinity any day.

You’ll likely get at least an ONT (fiber modem) from the ISP, but can use your own Router/Switch/AP setup.

Hardwiring is always preferred but not always needed. It depends on what devices you are using. I want my gaming and production computers hardwired. Streaming devices, phones, laptops, etc can all be wireless and work just fine.
