Crucial BX300 2.5" SSD, was the C drive on my old system. I attached a SATA to USB adapter and plugged it into my new Windows 10 system, and it demands I format the drive and doesn’t recognize the files. Any workaround?

What kind of adapter is this exactly?
Some of these adapters have a different block size 4k instead of 512 Bytes.
