Hey everyone,
I recently purchased a used PC, and I’ve been encountering a frustrating issue while playing. My FPS keeps dropping from a smooth 180 down to a sluggish 28 in grand theft auto, causing the screen to freeze for a second. It’s making the game unplayable, and I could really use some assistance in troubleshooting and fixing this problem.
Here are some details about my setup:
Zotac 4080
i7 13700K
prime z790-p wifi
crosair cmh 32gx5 DDR5
Silverstone 850w
Monitor XL2740 240HZ
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue ? How did you resolve it? If you have any ideas or tips on what might be causing this problem and how to fix it, please let me know.
Check if you have SAntivirus, if you do, delete it, it gives you massive fps drops.
Please check that you’re not using your integrated graphics!
This could be literally anything. ✨Some✨ faulty component. Not having enough of a certain component (you didn’t mention the amount of RAM you have and its specs). A faulty game (installation). Faulty drivers. It could be literally everything
Check your temps. I found GTA went potato mode when my laptop got hot.
What kind of storage are you running it from? First easy thing I would do in your case is leave the performance monitor running in the background, wait for a stutter, and alt tab to check for big spikes in disk usage.
Heat issue probably ? Measure temps
Have you got the game stored on an HDD or SSD?
Should have got the 4090. Maybe even two of them.
GTA begins to break above 120 fps
Bro I think I have a solution. Are you experiencing those stutters only in gta or in other games?
Especcially for gta V. Game engine has a limit of 188 fps. It cant go higher. Your system can easily handle this game at 188 fps and even higher. I’d recommend downloading MSI Afterburner and locking the fps in GTA V for example to 150 (Use RivaTurner Statistic Server to lock the fps ). It should feel buttery smooth with no all stutters and lag spikes
This is the one!
Change to AMD, then you don’t have any problems with your 4080.
In gta? Yeah sounds something like a drive issue, I’ve done things like a complete redownload of the game to fix problems like this
I was running into this problem with my new build. Uninstalling the nvidia drivers with DDU and installing them again fixed it.
I dont recommend running GTA on more than 144 fps, the engine is notoriously known to shit itself above 144fps
Lock the game’s FPS to 120
If you’re talking about GTA IV then its not ur rig’s fault. Try installing GXVK from Nexus. Also, make sure the power plan is not on “Power Saving”.
