I just bought an MSI Raider GE68 HX to get better performance. I tried it out last night for the first time. Performance is great, but I’m worried about the temp it’s running at. For context to help those familiar with the game and it’s launch issues, I’m playing Cities Skylines 2.

Basically, when playing, I’m noticing the MSI center is reporting that the CPU is hovering around 80 degrees C—sometimes dipping close to 75 but also sometimes inching toward 85–and the GPU is around 75–plus or minus 3 or 4. My question is if those temps are sustainable and/normal for a demanding game, or if they’re harmful. I also notice the fans occasionally get pretty loud—basically a cycle of probably 2-3 minutes of loud for every 6-8 minutes of quieter noise. I’m not so much bothered by the noise itself as I am worried it’s a sign that things are too high, but I’m hoping it’s more just a normal noise that shows the fans are doing what they’re supposed to do, which would be fine. I’ll also note that this is only at the start of building a city in the game. Wondering if it could only get worse, or if this is just how it is when the PC is running a game. I’m thinking tonight I might try another game I own tonight like Age of Empires 4 to see how it compares.

Some specific specs: CPU Intel Core i9 13950HX, GPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 8GB GDDR6, 32 GB RAM. If I’m understanding the MSI’s reading correctly, the CPU is well below full capacity but the GPU is running 96-98%, although it seems like the memory (it says “memory—would that be the VRAM) is lower at like 50%.

Basically just looking for reassurance that this is more or less normal, or warnings that I should consider trying to return the PC. Thanks in advance!
