I’m looking to upgrade the RAM on my laptop. It has an 8GB one soldered on and one free slot. If I find a RAM stick that’s suitable for my laptop, does it matter if it matches the capacity of the one soldered on?

Sometimes yes sometimes no, really depends on the motherboard the type of RAM the BIOS you’re running.
Kind of a crap shoot too many factors to be able to predict if a certain configuration will work
