I’m very inept but I’ll do my best. It runs Windows 11 and has an SSD drive. The drive has 300GB of free space. I’ve used the machine for 5 days. Up until yesterday all was well. Playing Minecraft and watching YouTube at the same time, whilst having discord up in the background. Using the tasks manager I could see it used around 70% memory.
Cut till yesterday. I had the same three apps running. It was using around 80%. No biggie.
Cut till today. I had Minecraft running and opened chrome. And it lagged so bad. Opened up the tasks manager and saw memory was on 99%. I tried restarting the machine. A similar problems had happened before and restarting made the % go back down. Not this time.
I have no app other than the task manager running. The memory % never goes below 97%.
I’ve tried both restarting the computer. And shutting it down for 30 min, waiting, then starting it again. It’s still 97%. It lags so bad whenever I try to do anything.
I’ve also run a virus scan but nothing shows up.
I don’t know what to do. Help.
Got screenshots of what you’re seeing?
You need to check which program uses all the memory. And than you know where you have to look.
You need to look at the processes section of the task manager, it will show how much memory every background task or program is using. Click on memory to filter which apps are using the highest to the lowest. Also make sure the computer is detecting all your RAM by going to the Memory part of the task manager.
Are you using a third party antivirus? If so, uninstall that first and use the inbuilt Windows Defender.
Also, check ALL startup apps and disable those that you do not need/use. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/learning-center/take-control-of-windows-startup
Try running “Resource Monitor” and see if that helps in identify anything
